This is a true value and attraction of Opatija and another proof of the harmony of human creation and the ambience and natural features. It extends along the naturally set route following the sea shore and maximally respecting the configuration of the terrain and the coast. It extends from Volosko to Lovran for 12 kilometers and represents a unique and attractive walking path enriched by marvellous examples of cypresses, oaks and palm trees.
FOREST PROMENADE CARMEN SYLVA
It extends longitudinally on the hills of Učka above Opatija at an altitude of 50 to 180 m. The promenade was arranged in 1890 under the name “Aurora” and it was broadened in 1901 at the initiative and with the financial support of the Romanian King Karol and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, a poetess who wrote under the alias Carmen Sylva.
In several parts the promenade was devastated by construction of public and private objects.
